The Boyash Gypsies are a small minority within the Hungarian Gypsy population. Their music was hitherto mainly vocal, with various household implements for percussion or bass instruments, such as a milk pitcher or a wooden bowl, wooden spoons etc. - which can be heard on this recording. Guitar, violin, tambura (long-necked lute), accordion and double bass are more recent instruments added to the music of the Gypsies.
