The "Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe" (FFDT) was established in 1966, and is based in Ontario-CANADA. The group is an non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and preserving traditional Filipino folk music and dance, spreading warmth, joy, happiness and friendship around the world. The group is considered to be the 'premier' Filipino folk arts troupe in North America. The Philippine archipelago consists of over 7,000 islands of which the main ones are Luzon, Palawan, Mindanao and Visayas. The country boasts a vast wealth of music and dance which differs greatly from island to island. The Spanish conquered the Philippines, by accident in 1521 which had great impact upon the cultural and social aspects of the many different tribes who were the first "inhabitants" of the country. Thus, Filipino traditional music and dance is a mixture of Spanish, Oriental and Tribal influences. The CD is a cross-section of the repertoire of the FFDT and portrays the different cultures found within the Philippines. In short, Phillipine folk dance can be catagorised into 5-groups: dances of the Cordillera (Mountains of Northern Luzon), dances of Spanish influence, dances of the Morolandia (Muslim Filipinos on the island of Mindanao), countless Tribal dances and the dances of the Filipino countryside. The CD is highly recommended - it is simply the best Filipino traditional music CD available !!! Tracks: 1. Malong-Taghing Baila (tribal dance from Visayas) 2. Si Pilemon (song) 3. Kaykayapo (tribal dance from Luzon) 4. Mangi-Isda Suite (traditional Flipino music) 5. Kamanyang (tribal dance from Luzon) 6. Sa Libis Ng Nayon (song) 7. Vinta (tribal dance from Mindanao) 8.
