This is a superb and fascinating recording. I have traveled in Crete, Greece, and the Middle East. I am also fairly familiar with their musical styles. What surprised me about this recording is the strong, recognizable influences of other cultures. The Middle Eastern influence is very clear. Track fourteen uses the same melodic theme that is used in an Egyptian bellydancing recording that I acquired twenty years ago. Track eighteen is a version of a Cretian piece that I also have a twenty-year-old recording of. Track seventeen revolves around a melodic theme that was used in a Romanian or Hungarian rhapsody by a European classical composer. The Greek influence is also clear. All of the tracks contain superb musicianship and excellent recording quality. The sequencing of the tracks is well-chosen. This recording is a genuine treat.
