Compañia Folclórica "Matambú" was formed on December 8th 1997 by José Luis Acuña Esquivel who is now the director of the group. The group is very young consisting mainly of university students from San José. Many of the students have been in other well-known dance groups when they were younger, inclding the famous Asociación Folclórica "Escazuceña". The group takes its name "Matambú" in honour of the last indigenous reserve "Chorotega" in the region of Guanacaste. All the members of the group and the director have a strong desire to promote and preserve all aspects of Costa Rican folklore dance, which means the artistic programme and repertoire of the group is wide and diverse. The repertoire of the group includes songs, music and dances from the regions of Guanacaste, Puntarenas, Nicoya, San Carlos, Meseta, Cartago, San Isidro, Santa Cruz, Limón, San José and of course dances from the Indians of the misty and humid Costa Rican jungles. Since the creation of the group they have gained a high reputation and have successfully toured throughout Costa Rica and abroad to: Mexico, Canada, Italy and Spain. This CD, is only a small section of their vast artistic repertoire. The tracks include: 1. Juanas [Marimba] 2. Vals [Marimba] 3. ¡Cállate Hombre! [Cimarrona] 4. ¡Arrempújele, Carajo! [Marimba] 5.
