Drums are used to contact the ancestors, to communicate over long distances and to accompany celebrations or rites within a clan or group. Dingane Lelokoane, Mona (Paul) Mashinini, Mthando ‘Brigga’ Khanyile and Thulani Sengwayo and a group of Tswana drummers play individually-made Isigubhu, (Zulu bass drums), a variety of bush toms called Izi-Gubhu, shakers (Amagula or Igula), Djembes, a drum used in West Africa - Guinea, Senegal and Ghana. Shouts, singing, stamping, whistles and so on, are all part of what they do.
